Robert Carli
rob@robcarli.com
Robert Carli is one of Canada’s busiest and in-demand music composers for
Film & Television. Since scoring his first film in 1998, his music has received
numerous industry awards and nominations, including 11 Gemini nominations,
and 5 Gemini Awards, including Best Dramatic Series (2006 and 2007) and Best
Documentary (2004). He is the recipient of the 2007 and 2009 SOCAN Award
for domestic television.
Most recently, Robert composed music for the third season of Shaftesbury
Films’ The Murdoch Mysteries, and George A. Romero’s latest zombie movie
Survival of the Dead, and the new HBO Canada series Bloodletting and
Miraculous Cures. He is about to embark on the Cartoon Network’s first ever
live-action series, entitled “UnNatural History”, produced by Warner Bros.
The diversity of Robert's music can be attributed in part to his years of
experience as a performer of musical styles ranging from avante garde and
classical, to jazz and rock.
After graduating from the University of Toronto with a
degree in composition, he began performing as saxophonist with The Toronto
Symphony, The National Ballet of Canada and The Esprit Orchestra. He has
toured with rock bands and jazz groups across North America and throughout
Europe, and he has worked with such artists as the Barenaked Ladies, Julie
Andrews, David Byrne, Bob Newhart, and soprano Mary Lou Fallis. Mr. Carli
has collaborated on several projects with The Art Of Time Ensemble, including a
new recording with Steven Page, and a composition based on prose by Michael
Ondaatje, which premiered in the fall of 2008 with the author as narrator.
Additionally, Robert teaches saxophone at the University of Toronto, and
continues to perform with classical and contemporary music ensembles.
